Some UM colleges and departments offer merit-based scholarships to academically competitive prospective freshmen, current, and transfer students. The Joseph M. Memorial Scholarship Award

The Department of Resident Life
The Department of Resident Life is currently accepting applications for the Joseph M. Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Award, which are due Dec. 1. All University graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to apply. Established in recognition of Joe Mitchell's compassion for the less fortunate members of our society and in honor of his ability to befriend, guide and mentor individuals whose ability to succeed as students at our institution was challenged by some personal or family circumstance, one-time awards of up to $1,000 will be awarded for the spring semester. Dreamkeepers Emergency Assistance Grant
Application Deadline: May 31, 2010
The Dreamkeepers Emergency Financial Assistance program at the University of Maryland is designed to assist students who are experiencing temporary hardships and provide assistance to students at risk of dropping out due to unexpected financial problems. Please note the Dreamkeepers Emergency Assistance Grant can not be used to pay for costs related to books or tuition and mandatory fees. In order to qualify for the Dreamkeepers Emergency Assistance Grant students must meet the following criteria:
* Undergraduate or Graduate Student at the University of Maryland * Enrolled in a degree seeking program * Registered for at least 6 credits
The Dreamkeepers Emergency Assistance Grant can be used to assist students with:
* Delinquent off campus living expenses (i.e. rent/mortgage payment) * Delinquent utility bills * Delinquent Medical Expenses not covered by insurance * Food related expenses (i.e. groceries)
