2007-2008 Application Process: Graduate Students

  1. Apply for Admission to a degree granting program at UM.
For maximum consideration for Merit-Based Aid, apply by your program's Admission deadline.

  2. Every January, complete the FAFSA Application Process.
This process covers the following aid programs :

Meet the UM Priority Deadline for maximum consideration for aid.
To meet the UM Priority Deadline for the 2007-2008 academic year, the FAFSA processor (Federal Student Aid Program) must receive your FAFSA by February 15, 2007. Please submit your form early to ensure adequate time for mailing and receipt by the processor. To meet this deadline, you may need to report estimated federal tax data. There is no penalty for filing estimated figures, but you must correct your estimates on the Student Aid Report (SAR) once your actual federal tax returns are completed. (The priority deadline for the 2006-2007 academic year was February 15, 2006.)

  3. MD residents, should apply for Maryland State Aid.
To be eligible for many state programs for the 2007-2008 academic year you must submit a FAFSA postmarked by March 1, 2007. Some programs require additional steps, for more information, visit the Maryland State Scholarship Administration (MSSA). Or visit Aid Agencies for Other States . UM Graduate Students may apply for the following state aid programs: Delegate Scholarship, Senatorial Scholarship, Loan Assistance Repayment Program, Edward T. Conroy Memorial Scholarship, Sharon Christa Mcauliffe Memorial Teacher Education Award, and the Firefighter, Ambulance, and Rescue Squad Member Tuition Reimbursement Program. (The MSSA deadline for 2006-2007 was March 1, 2006.)

  4. Search for Scholarships.
Try to collect all your application materials by the January or February immediately prior to the academic year for which you are applying for aid. Most scholarship application deadlines are in the March or April prior to the beginning of the academic year.
