Position Title:  Tutor (MATH, CHEM, BSCI, PHYS, or Writing)

Department Name:  Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education

Number of Available Openings:  4-5

Total Number of Hours Needed Per Week:  No more than 6

Days:  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9am to 7pm, Wednesday/Friday 9am to 5 pm

Hourly Wage:  $8.00 [U] $10.00 [G]

Job Description:  OMSE Tutors support the mission of the office by providing tutorial services to multiethnic undergraduate students in various academic disciplines. The position is designed to enable tutees to better comprehend lower level required courses and to support the successful academic development of program participants. Tutors serve as OMSE ambassadors, and demonstrate academic proficiency in their respective areas of tutoring.

Qualifications:  Earned a grade of A in course(s) wanting to tutor

  • Must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and the ability to effectively communicate
  • Applicants need good communication skills and must have the ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and with varied skill levels.
  • Patience and respect towards others

Learning Opportunity:  Opportunity for Fall semester employment available based on a positive performance review.

Comments:  Tutors are needed for the following courses: CHEM 131/135/231/241/271, BSCI 105/106/201/202, MATH 115/140/141/220/221/240/241, PHYS 121/122/141/142/161/260/270 and ENGL 101.

Applicants who can tutor multiple courses are preferred. Flexible work schedule is required due to the constraints of the summer course times. Tutoring is done on a walk-in basis or by weekly review sessions.
