The University of Maryland’s Position on Wise Use of Credit

Credit cards can be a valuable tool for students, serving as an entry point into the world of credit and as a vital resource in emergency situations. However, the marketing of credit cards can make it tempting for any person to borrow more than expected or to follow unwise financing practices.

The University of Maryland encourages every student to exercise independent judgment in the area of credit, to access the educational tools provided on campus to manage credit card and other debt (see http://www.financialaid.umd.edu/literacy/) and to seek financial guidance when needed.
