The Fund for Veterans’ Education will provide up to $3,500,000 in the 2008-09 academic year to help meet the financial need of veterans from all branches of the United States Armed Forces who served in Afghanistan or Iraq since September 11, 2001 and who are now enrolled in college or vocational-technical school.
The Fund for Veterans’ Education is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a department of Scholarship America. Scholarship America is a national nonprofit education support and student aid service organization that seeks to involve and assist the public and private sectors in expanding educational opportunities and encouraging educational achievement.

You must enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university, as a full-time or part-time, degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student or attend a private career school. You must be: the son or daughter of a member of the United States Armed Forces who died as a result of military service or who suffered a service connected 100 percent permanent disability as result of military service; a veteran who suffers a service-connected disability of 25 percent or greater, as a result of military service, and has exhausted or is no longer eligible for federal veterans’ educational benefits; the son, daughter, or surviving spouse of a victim of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks who died as a result of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the attack on the Pentagon in Virginia, or the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania; a POW/MIA of the Vietnam Conflict or his/her son or daughter; the son, daughter or surviving spouse (who has not remarried) of a state or local public safety employee or volunteer who died in the line of duty or who was 100 percent disabled in the line of duty; or a state or local public safety employee or volunteer who was 100 percent disabled in the line of duty.
Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund

Applicants must be the dependent son or daughter of a soldier, sailor, airman, Marine or Guardsman who was killed or permanently disabled (100% VA disability rating) in the line of duty; or, the dependent son or daughter of a soldier, sailor, airman, Marine or Guardsman who is currently classified as a POW or MIA; and a high school senior, high school graduate or registered as an undergraduate student at an accredited college or post high school vocational/technical institution. Scholarship awards are not available for graduate study. Maximum age for a scholarship is 26. Parents combined income can not exceed $85,000 annually.

Applications for the Marine Corps Sgt. Jeannette L. Winters Memorial Scholarship are requested from U.S. Marine Corps men and women who are currently on active duty, in the reserves or honorably discharged veterans. Eligible candidates must be currently attending fully accredited colleges or universities in the United States and enrolled as either part-time or full-time undergraduate students in an eligible Bachelor of Science degree program. Students who are sophomores, juniors or seniors who meet these requirements are eligible to apply.
