Summer Financial Aid Information Form

Financial Aid for the summer semester is extremely limited. Students must be enrolled for at least 6 total credits over the course of the summer to be considered for financial aid.

Application Process

Only students with a 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file will be considered for summer aid. Students who register for at least 6 credits by April 4, 2008 will be notified of their summer loan eligibility by May 4, 2008. Students who register after April 4, 2008 will be notified of their loan eligibility by May 25, 2008.

Eligibility for Summer Aid

To be eligible for most summer financial aid programs, students must enroll for at least six credits or 24 graduate units. Students who expect to graduate at the end of the summer session or in December 2008 may use their loan eligibility from the 2008-09 FAFSA for the summer.

Students may also borrow PLUS and alternative loans for summer school. PLUS loan request forms should be submitted to our office for processing. Additional information about lenders may be found here.

Federal Work-Study

At this time we are not able to offer any new summer FWS awards due to lack of funding. Please discuss your employment options with your employer. Ask if it is possible to switch to your employer's Labor and Assistance Funds. (This is up to the discretion of your employer).

If you are in need of assistance in locating non-FWS student employment opportunities, including part-time, temporary, summer, internship/co-op, or full-time employment, please visit the Career Center’s Student Employment Center, which provides free services for students, including career counseling, resume development, job listing services, a credentials service, job fairs, and more. To utilize these services, you should contact the Career Center at 3120 Hornbake Building or by calling 301-314-7225. You may also visit their web page at http://www.CareerCenter.umd.edu.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions please call the FWS line at 301-314-5302 or email fws-admin@umd.edu.
